La noci\u00f3 de &#8220;frontera&#8221;, com a determinant de pertinen\u00e7a o exclusi\u00f3, \u00e9s inherent al seu discurs. Haaning investiga la complexitat de l&#8217;assimilaci\u00f3 cultural des de dos punts de vista: el de la majoria i el de la minoria. L&#8217;inici de la seva exploraci\u00f3 en aquest sentit es remunta a 1994, quan a penes comen\u00e7ava a intuir-se l&#8217;impacte que haurien de tenir la globalitzaci\u00f3 i l&#8217;estandarditzaci\u00f3. Per\u00f2 ara, quan en pa\u00efsos com Dinamarca es proposa rebaixar el salari dels immigrants -pel simple fet de ser-ho- o quan en el nostre el drama de les pasteres s&#8217;ha convertit en una secci\u00f3 fixa en els informatius, les reflexions de Haaning adquireixen una especial rellev\u00e0ncia.<\/p>\n<p>La mostra actual -Antonio, Aurangzeab, Deniz, Ecevit, Faysal, Hakan, Murat, Oemer, Radovan, Sambes, Shabeer i Dennis- presenta una selecci\u00f3 d&#8217;obres que s\u00f3n refer\u00e8ncies visuals i auditives d&#8217;anteriors projectes de l&#8217;artista (gaireb\u00e9 tots concebuts per a espais p\u00fablics) que exploren les nocions de difer\u00e8ncia cultural, estrangeria, frontera i exclusi\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>Dt.&#8217;lesh (2000) \u00e9s una gran caixa de llum amb la frase &#8220;a qui li importa?&#8221;, escrita en \u00e0rab, l&#8217;ambigua declaraci\u00f3 del qual admet, aix\u00ed, tant una lectura des del ressentiment com des de la resignaci\u00f3. El missatge, que formalment podria semblar un reclam publicitari, \u00e9s nom\u00e9s accessible als qui coneixen aquest idioma. Haaning, conscient que la pertinen\u00e7a o l&#8217;exclusi\u00f3 depenen de l&#8217;acc\u00e9s a determinats codis, els inverteix, de manera que els habitualment exclosos s\u00f3n aqu\u00ed els \u00fanics amb possibilitat d&#8217;acc\u00e9s. No \u00e9s estrany que Dt.&#8217;lesh, que havia de ser instal\u00b7lada en la fa\u00e7ana d&#8217;un edifici de Besan\u00e7on, fos desestimada, en plena campanya electoral, per l&#8217;alcalde de la ciutat, que la va considerar una provocaci\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>Antonio, Aurangzeab, Deniz, Ecevit, Faysal, Hakan, Murat, Oemer, Radovan, Sambes, Shabeer i Dennis s\u00f3n els noms dels protagonistes de Foreigners Portraits (2000), pertanyents tots ells a la primera generaci\u00f3 de refugiats a Copenhaguen. En aquesta s\u00e8rie de fotografies, Haaning converteix en protagonistes a membres d&#8217;un col\u00b7lectiu en general marginat dels sistemes de representaci\u00f3 dominants. A pesar que els dotze retratats assumeixen clarament els codis de vestuari i accessoris de les nostres estandarditzades societats occidentals (pantalons Jack and Jones, jaqueta Di\u00e8sel, samarreta Puma, camisa Fred Perry, cal\u00e7otets Calvin Klein, m\u00f2bil Nokia&#8230;) dif\u00edcilment serien triats per a publicitar aquestes marques.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_TDyat64LPA\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>La cultura del &#8220;altre&#8221;, de l&#8217;estranger, \u00e9s tamb\u00e9 transposada a un altre \u00e0mbit en Turkish Jokes (1994) i en Arabic Joke (2002). En la primera, on un altaveu instal\u00b7lat en una pla\u00e7a d&#8217;Oslo (i, m\u00e9s tard, en la Documenta 11), emetia acudits en turc. En Arabic Joke, un cartell amb un acudit en \u00e0rab es va distribuir pel centre de Ginebra. De nou, amb un subtil despla\u00e7ament, l&#8217;artista modificava la relaci\u00f3 del transe\u00fcnt amb l&#8217;espai p\u00fablic. De sobte, tan sols els coneixedors de l&#8217;idioma disposaven de la clau per a entendre la situaci\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>Foreigners Free (1997-2001) brindava als visitants estrangers l&#8217;acc\u00e9s gratu\u00eft a les exposicions d&#8217;un centre d&#8217;art. En aquest context, l&#8217;estranger \u00e9s, sovint, el turista que pot costejar-se les despeses d&#8217;un viatge. Per\u00f2 estrangers s\u00f3n tamb\u00e9 aquells immigrants que es veuen obligats a viure en societats que no els accepten o, pitjor encara, que els converteixen en invisibles. Haaning evid\u00e8ncia aquests mecanismes en situar-los en primer pla. Amb la inclusi\u00f3 dels estrangers en el grup de persones que mereixen una atenci\u00f3 especial (aix\u00f2 \u00e9s, al costat d&#8217;aturats, jubilats, nens o discapacitats), subratlla la fragilitat de la seva condici\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>La contradicci\u00f3 entre la falta de poder i el desig, a causa de la difer\u00e8ncia, defineix l&#8217;experi\u00e8ncia social i est\u00e8tica del treball de Jens Haaning, que adopta l&#8217;estrat\u00e8gia duchampiana de convertir els objectes quotidians en objectes d&#8217;experi\u00e8ncia est\u00e8tica. No obstant aix\u00f2, a difer\u00e8ncia de Duchamp, Haaning extrapola situacions de la vida real que, amb lleus despla\u00e7aments, plantejaran contundents interrogacions, proporcionant a l&#8217;espectador l&#8217;oportunitat de decidir per si mateix sobre el seu valor. El discurs de Jens Haaning \u00e9s tremendament cr\u00edtic i pol\u00edtic, sense ser provocador ni panfletario.
