{"id":969,"date":"2013-12-18T17:22:23","date_gmt":"2013-12-18T17:22:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/montsebadia.net\/new\/criticas-aplausos-y-buenos-deseos\/"},"modified":"2025-02-19T11:52:04","modified_gmt":"2025-02-19T11:52:04","slug":"criticas-aplausos-y-buenos-deseos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/montsebadia.net\/en\/criticas-aplausos-y-buenos-deseos\/","title":{"rendered":"Criticism, applause and good wishes"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"lRu31\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">We are in an emergency situation.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Social, political and economic values \u200b\u200band models are changing, and we fear that they will change for the worse.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Taking stock of what 2013 has been is no longer an innocent exercise consisting of pointing out what we liked and what we didn&#8217;t, but cannot be isolated from the direction things are taking.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">2013 started badly, with a progressive loss of individual freedoms and a desire to generate fear and insecurity.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Culture, &#8220;the most revolutionary political option in the long term&#8221; as Montserrat Roig said, is now in the spotlight.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"lRu31\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">In the context of art, the worst thing has been the cuts that have made the sector precarious.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Institutions have seen their sources of funding reduced, but those who have come out worst off are artists, critics, curators, designers and assemblers who have seen their job prospects dramatically diminish.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Instead of looking for solutions, institutions are disoriented and paralyzed.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The crisis and the cuts have been used politically to make initiatives disappear that were not believed in, such as the Espai Zer01 in Olot, the Centre d&#8217;Art in Tarragona or the Office of Artistic Diffusion of the Barcelona Provincial Council, among others.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Can Felipa was saved, but just barely.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"lRu31\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"> But as by nature we tend to see the glass half full, we must mention the positive things of 2013. The main one is that there are people capable of saying NO and doing things.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">It has been a year in which presentations, exhibitions, events, projects, interventions, festivals and meetings have taken place in unusual places (artists&#8217; studios, the streets of the city, domestic spaces or the beach).<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">All these initiatives led by independent agents have shown that there is life (and a lot of it) outside the institution.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">We will mention some of them, such as the exhibition \u201cA Place no cars go\u201d, organised by Quim Packard and presented in his studio, the Lycra and Plaga festivals, the proposals of collectives such as Morir de Fr\u00edo or Azotea, among others.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Also noteworthy are the independent spaces that continue to stand firm, defending their programmes, such as halfhouse or homesession, and others such as BAR, focused on exchange.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"lRu31\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Espai 13 of the Mir\u00f3 Foundation is very positive.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The galleries that are rethinking themselves, such as ADN, which has inaugurated ADN Platform, a space for curators and artists, with exhibitions, debates and presentations.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Or the T\u00e0pies Foundation, a pioneer in making its archive accessible, has faced a task that it had pending, the figure of T\u00e0pies.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The result was \u201cContra T\u00e0pies\u201d, curated by Valent\u00edn Roma.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"lRu31\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">And we finish with the \u201cauguri\u201d for 2014, which we hope will be dominated by a more critical attitude, with more action and less cowardice, more risk, more commitment and more honesty.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"lRu31\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">[Article published in Bonart, 2013]<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"OvtS8d\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"ow40\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"UdTY9 WdefRb\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-location=\"2\">\n<div class=\"kO6q6e\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are in an emergency situation.
